VIPER
The software package VIPER (Visual perception of auditory signals) allows for the first time a hearing based visualization of the "GESTALT" of a sound signal with high resolution versus the time/frequency domain. To achieve this, "time- and frequency contours" are extracted from the signal, tonal components are detected as "tracks" and aurally redundant (and thus inaudible) information is removed. In contrary to conventinal methods like FFT- or third-octave analysis VIPER provides a high time resolution and a high frequency resolution simultaneously.

With the VIPER PerceptualXplorer the results can be edited intuitively "millisecond by millisecond" and "Hertz by Hertz". The modified signal can be resynthesized and played back for verification and control purposes.

For speech quality analysis MOS and DMOS simulations and a new "VIPER Speech Quality Measure" are available.

Applications for VIPER are, for example, acoustic product design (visualization and modification of industrial sound signals), identification of noise patterns or speakers, analysis of music and speech signals, quality evaluation and -improvement of codecs, speech synthesizing and -transmission systems.
